In the luxury sector, less is more. But how much less? Balancing stunning photography with equally stunning white space is the key.

Art Direction, Design

My work for Victor will be seen by some high profile business leaders, celebrities and possibly a premier league footballer or two. I was asked to refresh the Victor quarterly magazine design and also create a Summer Journal in-flight newspaper. The challenge was to keep the clutter to a minimum, let the content stand on its own merit. Working with the content editor we took stuff out, then took some more stuff out. I used a new headline font which added an injection of personality to the magazine.

“From concept to execution, Phil at Effective Creative is a pleasure to work with: he quickly finds solutions to problems, and delivers on budget and on time. His design for our Summer Journal has been particularly well received, and his expertise has helped to give Victor a fitting editorial presence.”

Minimum fuss

I’ll be honest, my experience of private jets was zero, but that didn’t phase me. I’ve worked on luxury brands in the past and I knew that simplicity was the key when it came to the magazine design. The newspaper was a lighter read so could feature a few design flourishes. As my relationship with Victor took off, I also created ski resort maps, press advertising and infographics.
